Rumours of a Kingdom…

21 Sep

This Sunday evening from 8:00pm – 9.30pm

What do you think of when you hear the word ‘kingdom’? You might think of a fictional kingdom
like the ‘Kingdom of Far, Far Away’ in Shrek, or perhaps you think of the United Kingdom. In many respects the ‘Kingdom of Far, Far Away’ and the United Kingdom are fairly typical kingdoms. They cover a certain geographical area and they have
rulers – and if you don’t obey the rulers you get into trouble.

But the idea of the Kingdom of God was central to Jesus’ teaching.  We’ll be looking at what sort of kingdom this is…

Led by our very own yp…

What if?

31 Aug

What if we prayed? What ifwe really believed God when He said:

‘if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’

24-7 Prayer Ireland are launching a month of prayer throughout Fermanagh, South Tyrone and Sligo as part of their prayer journey around Ireland.
Different churches and organisations in our area will be praying throughout September, including a few schools.
Youth for Christ are launching the prayer room next Friday at 8pm in two:42 with a time of worship (led by Alex Atwell) and Carla Nixon is going to talk about 24-7 Prayer Ibiza.
The prayer room in 2:42 will be available from 8pm on Friday to 8pm on Sunday for you to pray.

The road to Emmaus…

18 May

Just for fun last Sunday night we set the challenge of walking through a labyrinth…..without actually marking the way.  We set up a grid of 9  x 10 card A4 pages on the floor and marked the starting point. The group had to find their way by trial and error.  Only one person was allowed on the labyrinth at one time and if they made a mistake they had to go back to the beginning.  It was a good exercise, bringing in the need for guidance, communication and working together to find the way through.  I used the idea from here

Next we looked at the passage Luke 24: 13 – 35 which describes the journey to Emmaus by two disciples who are in despair after seeing Jesus crucified.

Did you know that a labyrinth was used in the past as a way of deeping prayer?  Here’s an on-line version to explore…

How are the exams going?  Why not chill out at the Joint Circuit BBQ this Friday at Letterbreen Methodist…. 7.30pm.?  Good food & good company!

Update

20 Apr

The last few weeks we’ve been making the most of the light evenings and going down to the Broadmeadow to the park for tag and a few other games.

Besides that we’ve been looking at what it means to follow Jesus, the parable of the talents and last week we looked the cross from Peter’s perspective.

We didn’t nearly have much time to consider what the cross means so we’ll be coming back to this and spending some time responding to this prayerfully when we come back after Easter.

There’ll be no YF for the next two Sundays – and we’ll resume on Sunday 8th May 2011.

In the meantime – here’s something which we will want to support in Two:42.

life@two:42 on Friday 6th May at 8.00pm when Beth Laverty [24-7 Prayer School’s Worker] will be talking about 24-7 Prayer and introducing “What if a Nation Prayed”.

Face on Faith

16 Mar

Dr John Philips is coming to talk about what following Jesus has meant for him.  We can learn so much from listening to others.  It helps prepare us to meet life’s challenges if they have been through similar difficulties.  Come and bring your friends.  There’ll be time to chat and ask questions too….

Creative Prayer – The Lord’s Prayer

16 Mar

We’ve continued on our them on prayer and thanks to Aoife who set up the room with prayer stations on the Lord’s prayer.  She adapted this resource here.

Also – remember the Knekt weekend from 25-27th March.  This is an opportunity to connect with pther young people from across our district.  Let me know if you can come asap.
